First Rule: Get All Smacky When She Kills Your Babeh. (there's film footage for you tumblrs)

myabortion:

Ooooo, of course! How could I forget THE abortion drama in the Anniversary Party? OMG! This has totally come full circle. The link? Alan Cumming!

Alan Cumming hot Jazz Handed Star-> Played the MC in Cabaret -> Sally has an abortion in Cabaret, Cliff Smacks her -> Sally has an abortion in Anniversary Party and Alan smacks her! So much smack!

Here’s a clip of Sally from Cabaret singing her swan song right after she’s told Cliff about the abortion and he leaves her (first he smacks her around first though). This song, when played on it’s own may sound like type of glitter choked schmaltz of typical broadway solos. But it’s actually an incredibly dark song. Thick with irony. Lizza, won the oscar for this

Now on to the Anniversary Party! Omg! I found the whole fucking clip where Sally (Jenifer Jason Leigh) confesses her abortion to Jo (Alan Cumming) Start at 1:45. Now mind you Anniversary Party is very self-referential. Typical late 90’s trope. It’s all about brazenly shallow authors and actors. But the performances are delicious. Here! Watch. There’s been a slow storm brewing between Sally and Jo.

Unlike Cabaret where the abortion is supposed to symbolize the rising culture of death — WW 2 and all, in the anniversary party i think the abortion is supposed to embody the couple’s hostility towards each other. Sally uses her abortion as a weapon in this scene. But its also cause she genuinely doesn’t want to mother a child. Hmmm kind of.. Similar to Kate and Micheal a la’ Godfather two! Roll the clip!

Christ, watching these two scenes back to back is just hits you like a wave doesn’t it? All the women come off as selfish and the men as rightfully prideful. Why is there no scene where a chick is all “Sup bro, I had abortion two weeks ago.” and the dude is all “high five!” Ahhh!! I just looked up Patsy from Absolutely fabulous’ famous “abort! abort!” speech and look how the scene ends!

too many great clips not to reblog.
